Details
Wall Altar & Sacred Shelf
Crafted by Holly Zajur, each (w)alter is a hand-built ceramic fixture, shaped by hand and painted by the raw flames of Raku firing. Part wall-mounted altar, part crystal display shelf, and part elemental sculpture—each piece is a one-of-a-kind sanctuary built with raw intention to hold your crystals, incense, and daily focus.
Whether you’re mounting a (w)alter as an anchor for your own space or choosing a handcrafted housewarming gift, this raku wall shelf brings the physical energy of fire directly into the home.
The Story Behind the Piece
An altar doesn't have to sit on a crowded nightstand or dresser—it can live on your wall, integrated directly into your space. (w)alters were created as a fixed sanctuary: a dedicated ledge to charge your crystals in passing daylight, hold a burning incense cone, or hang as a piece of raw ceramic wall art. It serves as a visual invitation to pause whenever you pass by.
The Process
Each (w)alter is slowly formed by hand into its final wall-mounted shape. After bisque firing, pieces in this collection undergo a naked raku firing method. The vessel is coated in a temporary slip shield that peels away after being pulled glowing-hot from the kiln and plunged into an organic reduction chamber. When stripped, it leaves behind raw, bare-clay smoke markings etched by the fire.
Care & Longevity
-
Dry Display Only: Raku is an alternative, low-fire ceramic process. Keep your (w)alter completely dry—it is designed strictly for crystals, incense, and dry display objects, not water or liquids.
-
Incense Use: Always burn incense on a heat-safe surface within the ledge, and never leave burning incense unattended. Wipe away cool ash with a soft cloth.
-
Indoor Display: Keep your piece indoors, safe from direct outdoor weather or freezing temperatures that could weaken the clay.
-
Cleaning: Dust gently with a dry, soft microfiber cloth. Never submerge in water.
